All senior cycle subjects are offered at Higher Level and Ordinary Level. We offer a choice of two Leaving Certificates at senior cycle.
Traditional Leaving Cert Programme
Traditional Leaving Certificate Students take seven examination subjects from the following programme:
Mandatory Examination Subjects:
Irish, English, Mathematics.
They choose Four subjects from the following:
Biology, Agricultural Science, Geography, Engineering, Construction, Physics, Business, Architectural Technology, Art, Design and Communication Graphics, Home Economics, Music and French.
Subject Choices for 2010 / 2011 academic year are;
- Construction / Art / Biology
- DCG / Home Ec
- Engineering / Business / French
- Geography / Physics
The Subject Choices for 2011 / 2012 academic year are;
- Engineering / Business
- DCG / Home Ec / Biology
- Geography / Agricultural Science
- French / Construction
All third year pupils are surveyed to determine the most popular subject choices and every effort is made to satisfy these needs. Subject choices / bands may change from year to year depending on student choices.
Mandatory Non-Examination Subjects:
Career Guidance, Religious Education, Physical Education.
Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP)
This programme is offered to all students and involves all of the Traditional Leaving Certificate subjects plus two link modules:
- Enterprise Education
- World of Work
Students must study a European language along with Irish and English. The latter modules are designed to equip students with practical and personal skills not normally acquired in the traditional Leaving Certificate. Work experience at the end of 4th Year is an integral part of this course.
The link modules are assessed, graded and points awarded for admission purposes to third level Colleges as follows:
Distinction 70, Merit 50, Pass 30.
