Grange Post Primary Go Nationwide

Grange Post Primary School has been chosen as one of the First Secondary schools in Co. Sligo to participate in the Music Generation Programme. This programme is part funded by U2 and its aim is to give every child in Co. Sligo a chance to participate in at least 6 Hours of music tuition. This is totally free of charge and will take place in the school over six weeks. A tutor will come to the school every Monday for six weeks and we hope to get the programme underway with 1st and 2nd years.

On Monday 19th December our second year students will feature on Nationwide at 7pm as part of the Music Generation Programme. Well done to 2A and their tutor Karl

Eileen and Joanne meet President Mc Aleese

President Mc Aleese presents Gold Medals (this was the President’s final public function for
Gaisce) As Patron of Gaisce – The Presidents Award

President Mc Aleese presented 70 Gaisce Gold Awards to young adults from  all over the Island of Ireland. The Awards
are presented for prolonged commitment in five different areas of activity:community involvement, personal skills; physical recreation, a residential project and an adventure journey.

The Awards were presented on Thursday 29th September 2011 at 2pm in St Patrick’s Hall. Dublin Castle. Two past pupils of Grange Post Primary School: Eileen Gibson and Joanne Conway each received their Gold Award from President Mc Aleese.

Siobhan Evans and Lorna Creaven were their Gaisce Pals and attended the presentation also, they supported the girls as they worked to achieve their Bronze Award in Fourth year in Grange Post Primary School. Then their Silver President’s Award over the next eighteen months, the girls worked hard toreceive this award doing Community work, learning a new skill (Joanne learnedto drive and passed her test – well done!) and taking part in an adventure.

These hard working and motivated girls then moved onto their Gold Award and  helped to train our football teams for tournaments and football leagues as part of their community work. They spent some time working with the St Vincent De Paul over the summer.  We are extremely proud of you both on this fantastic achievement.

Hospice Coffee Morning

On Friday the 16th of September the Fourth years held the annual Hospice Coffee Morning as part of the national fundraising drive for the
Hospice. Second year advertised the event and sold tickets to students at €3 per head. Staff made their own contributions. On the day the second year girls heated the ovens, the room was prepared, the sausage rolls were cooked and hot and cold drinks servedunder the watchful eye of  Mrs Shelly.
Tickets were  collected on the door as each group came. The kitchen and canteen was left sparkling afterwards and we
raised €601 for this worthy charity. We would like to thank Ms Mannion and Kathleen Fahy for all their help on the day

Today John Kelly from North West Hospice accapted the money from Mr Downey and second year girls
